Little has been found out about this plague in the past ten years since it revealed itself to the public. Some say its the result of a government weapon gone wrong, others say that this is just the result of global warming and environment pollution in the years before.
But the truth is, it was only released upon earth's people due to one scientist's mistake.
The U.S. government had been developing a biological weapon for many years in the city of New York, New York. The president at the time only wanted it just in case war was brought to the country, so we could wipe out the enemies quickly. It was designed to infect the water that the enemies drank, and whatever else they used the water on (I.e. cooking food). It was only supposed to enter the system if ingested, which was a safety precaution designed by the scientists just in case they accidentally got it on their skin.
The scientists assigned to this project were named Magnus Diorio, Latimer Diorio, and Jason Buckner. Each of these men were intensely trained in chemistry, biological warfare, and anatomy. Magnus was a man who would forget his head if it weren't screwed on just right. Latimer, Magnus's brother, was a father of two and divorced husband. Jason was a quiet man, and just liked to work on things his own way, and the brothers were suspicious that Jason altered the virus in horrible ways, but Jason being the superior chemist, was able to hide the changes flawlessly.
The project was named Project Monsoon. The color of this virus was a deep, navy blue, almost like the color of storm clouds.
One afternoon, when only Magnus was on the job, he forgot to take off the specialized boots that he had to wear once entering the laboratory when he left. He had spilt a beaker of the virus Monsoon, it dripping to the floor and Magnus stepping in it. The virus latched onto his soles, rubbing off slightly with every step he took, spreading everywhere he walked.
Later that same day, he went night fishing in the atlantic ocean with a friend and his wife. Magnus fell into the water with his lab boots, and the virus overtook the water around him. The color of the water shifted darker, although none of the ocean-goers could tell in the darkness of the night. Magnus, being a horrible swimmer, swallowed much of the infected water before his friend helped him out of the cold embrace of the ocean.
When Magnus returned home at sunrise, he realized he hadn't taken off his boots, and was terrified. He hid away for a week in his home, hoping that the virus wasn't as potent as the scientists had made it be. But it was much, much worse.
The Monsoon virus was only supposed to give the host a horrible fever of 120 degrees, which would cause severe brain damage and kill them.
But since Jason had altered the virus without the others knowing, it was so horribly vicious. His nose bleed and headache lasted at least an hour, both of them a pulsing nightmare. It felt like lava in his veins, his fever reaching well over 120 degrees. Hallucinations caused him to scratch at his arms constantly, making them red and raw. He slept for four days, and when he awoke, he remembered nothing of the agonizing day before. But he still knew that the virus was rapidly spreading. He confronted his brother about spreading the virus and how horribly altered it was by Jason. Only for Latimer's family to get trapped inside by the rain outside. Latimer and Magnus died of the infection, one of Latimer's daughters ran away, but the other was unphased, but only because she was secretly biologically different from the humans. Jason committed suicide in fear of being found by the infected and brutally killed.
However, not much was released by the News personnel on the subject of the Monsoon virus. Instead, they just called it a new type of flu, the blue flu. They thought it was only a result of pollution in the air and water, and advised everyone to wear masks and steer clear of the oceans. Until many of the people began dying, having mental breakdowns and shootings were all around the world.
It then took on the name of "the Blue Plague"
