likes: She loves to draw pictures of the days of old. She loves to explore above ground, because she lived mostly in an underground bunker. Maris likes to eat real food and cherishes clean water. Most of all she likes to find answers to why this happened.
dislikes: Having to wear a breathing apparatus, being sterilized upon reentry to the bunker, and the absence of color. Maris also despises taking five thousand pills a day and eating the fake food the bunker issues.
personality:
Maris is just as smart as her mother, possible smarter now from all the experience she has gained. Just as curious as she was as a little girl this dying world is a playground of information that is just waiting to be discovered. Meticulous at observations, everything is evidence, anything can have meaning. She is engrossed in her work and time is a anything that can not be taken for granted anymore. Time is of the essence and who knows how long one has before they die.
Love is a thing of the old world, it's something that she doesn't have time for. Something no one has time for anymore. She's know the same 75 guys, more than half of them too old for her, for the last 10 years and it's hard to see them as anything but. Not to say she doesn't have hormones, she's messed around growing up in the Bunker. Love is not foremost in her mind, she knows that soon she the Bunker will reach the next phase and it will be time to repopulate. She welcomes and dreads the day when they can continue to human race.
The Gifted are an confusing topic for her. She knows it is not their fault, she and 149 other people are the only ones that know the truth. But she does hate them for being able to survive the End without struggle. She knows they may possibly be the answer to the cure. The Cure that will allow the human race to continue without fear of contracting the The Blue Plague. But they are so inhuman that it is hard to see them as anything but a threat to humans.
"Are they our Demise or Salvation?"
history:
Before the PlagueMaris lived roughly nine years as a normal little girl. She played at the playground, swam in the ocean, and didn't fear the waves. Carefree and curious about everything, she'd tasted the rain on her lips and had savored the distinct flavor of fish. She'd gone to school and made friends, had dreams of being a scientist like her mother or a researcher like her father, dreams that were quickly dashed. For those years Maris grew up under the love and supervision of her parents, though their work kept them away for a large amount of time. She had nothing but the best, put through ballet classes from a young age and received anything she could desire. She lived a picturesque childhood in a well to do family as an only child.
During the Plague"I'll be right in." Her mothers voice drifted into the dining room from around the corner where she'd went to answer her phone. Mommy was always getting phone calls from work, even if it was dinner time. Mommy came back to the table and gave Maris a kiss on the cheek.
"I have to go to work Mar, I'll be back to tuck you in." Mommy told Maris as she swept a piece of Maris's long red hair out from in front of her face.
"Bye Daddy," Mommy kissed Daddy on the lips and then walked out the door.
The was the last time Maris ever saw Mommy again.
Days later people from Mommy's work came and pounded on their front door. Daddy had been crying for days and Maris didn't understand what was going on but it seemed Daddy had been waiting for these people. He let them in immediately and Maris listened from the doorway to what they said.
"Something terrible has happened to at the Labs...." One of the men in suits began while the second one shooed her away from the door and shut it. To Maris it seemed like hours before the door opened. While she waited she played with her two dolls in the hallway, when the door did open she looked up to see a despondent Daddy.
"Maris will you come here." Daddy asked her quietly and she immediately ran forward. "Maris, darling, you need to go with these two nice men. They are going to keep you safe." He told her as one of suit men picked her up.
"Daddy!" Maris cried trying to reach for him, but he made no move to follow after them. "Daddy!" She cried once more while she was carried out the door, she watched her Daddy's form grow smaller.
"I love you Maris."
After the PlagueMaris learned more in the Bunker than she would have ever believed. Her mother was not one of the main three scientists that was working on Project Monsoon, but her mother was the assistant to one of the three men. The night her mom had gotten the call was when Lab realized the out break. Her mother quickly fell ill to the Plague. She was one of the first to die from it. The government immediately had fears about how badly the disease would progress and quickly amassed a group of individuals to take underground in hope of preserving the human race in a worse case scenario. As the daughter of a lead scientist the invitation was extended to Maris but not her father, who is most likely dead, another kill by the Blue Plague.
The Bunker was home to 150 civilians and government officials of different genders, races, and ages, whose main priority was to survive. There were about 87 residents that had survived the ten years in the bunker. The other 63 had either left on their own free will, or been killed by Berserkers or Gifted on an exhibition outside. The Bunker is an underground facility positioned near an underground lake. The compound is air tight, fortified, and completely sterilized. Before Marisor anyone can re enter the compound they must be sterilized, their clothing incinerated, and have their blood and saliva tested first. The whole process can take an hour.
In the compound Maris grew up, was educated, possibly better than in a normal school, and trained in combat. While the world above them slowly descended into hell the Bunker essentially thrived and gradually cut ties with the government. So when the day came that the U.S. government fell the Bunker continued on normally.
Now Maris is a part of a scouting team gathering research on the post apocalyptic world and the monstrous creatures that now inhabit it.
